Falé is an organic, ecological, ethical and committed cotton yarn. Unlike 90% of the cotton grown in the world, the cotton plants for Falé are only watered by rain, without any irrigation, in the region of Tambacounda (South-East of Senegal).
Falé is a handspun yarn, as since the past 2 centuries, by 200 women who live in the villages of Fayil, Nérane, Simal, Fa Sakhor, Marlodj in the Sine Saloum region.
A local company, ‘Les Ateliers de la Filature’, buys the organic cotton (ECOCERT and FAIRTRADE certified) from the cotton company that federates all the country's cotton growers. Once the cotton has been carded by a textile factory in Kaolack, in the southwest, ‘Les Ateliers de la Filature’ distributes the carded fibre to their hand-spinners.
Due to the manual and artisanal procedure, the Falé yarn have some irregularities and may contain some cotton flower debris that gives it its charm.
